Hornsea Town 13-3 Marist Rovers C
Town romp to victory and win 5 games on the bounce in their journey to a top 3 finish as Leyland gets 8! Revell gets a brace, Burton and Froud get one a piece and Limb does a Jack Codd! And it was liveeeeee from St Mary’s 4g!
This week saw Hornsea travel to St Mary’s academy to play on arguably one of the best playing surfaces in the county as they took on league strugglers Marist Rovers. Town missing three regulars in Brooks, team Captain Adam Yorke and talisman Sam Baldwin coupled with the fact that Marists second team didn’t have a game, Hornsea prepared for ringers to be brought in to silence Towns stars after the last meeting that ended 11-1 to the Seasiders. Once again vice captain Mike Cade took the arm band and lead the team out, giving an excellent individual performance of leadership and play. Town lined up 4-5-1 with Wright in goal, a back four of Limb, Cade, Ashbridge and Baines. Codd, Burton and Froud in the middle with Revell and Stathers providing the width. Leyland was the lone striker today. Now mainly because this young reporter can’t remember what the hell happened for most of the goals, this weeks report will summarise player performances. Starting at the back, keeper Scott Wright had a solid game making 3 excellent point blank saves whilst commanding his box and organising the back four. The only hiccup in his game was the odd incident when he took a throw in and threw it to Marists striker who tapped in. The other two he conceded were 6 yard box scrambles that he was helpless to stop. All in a all a solid performance. The back four worked tirelessly all game as Baines and Limb worked the lines whilst Cade and Ashbridge kept things solid in the centre of defence. Baines often using his pace to get up the pitch to whip the ball in. Limb took advantage of a corner clearance curling one into the top corner from 18 yards. Cade was solid in the air and kept the back line together whilst overseeing the team as captain. Ashbridge was unlucky not to get on the score sheet himself, having the ball literally taken off his foot in the box. Some big blocks from all 4 players in and around the box. Moving onto the midfield Stathers had to withdraw from the game early after a coming together with the keeper leg to injuries for both players. Benson replaced him like for like. Revell and Benson used their pace on the wings to get in behind both unlucky not to score early on. Revell eventually scored a brace and set up Leyland for three capping off an excellent individual performance. Codd, Burton and Froud ran the show in the middle. Codd picking out some excellent through balls leading to goals whilst tirelessly tracking back to help defend. Burton was strong and had good vision with the ball. Often dropping deep to receive from keeper Wright and play out from the back. He set Leyland up for another three goals and bagged one himself. Froud was his usual sold self, picking balls out of the air and distributing with accuracy. Getting on the score sheet with a nice goal and pulling the strings. An excellent performance from towns bearded number 4. Then we have Ben Leyland who was simply outstanding today from a strikers point of view. Scoring a double hatrick and a brace! A total of 8 goals in 90 minutes and some may say he’s guilty of not getting 10! His teammates made some of the goals easy for him but a handful were down to pure class from the young striker. He dropped in and came looking for the ball whilst using tricks, skill and pace to weave his way through the home teams back line and score score score! Fantastic day for Towns number 9 who is now 1 goal behind leading top scorer Revell!

Facebook live caught up with manager Dave Limb who heaped praise on every member of his team who played outstanding today. It was a brilliant team performance and sits us comfortably in 4th place with 4 games to go. Man of the match is a hard one this week as there were many individual worthy performances but this week I’ll have to split it between two players. Ben Leyland has to be in there with the amount of goals he scored, but also Ohio Froud was brilliant in there today and did a lot of the nasty stuff in and around the centre circle. The ref also named Froud as star man.
Well done all involved!
Leyland x8
Revell x2
Burton x1
