Hornsea move into 4th place with a 4th successive victory as Reeve debuts with Baldwin and Ben bagging whilst big Trev continues to stamp his mark on the number 9 shirt!
Today saw the return fixture vs Oak Road Rangers as Town looked to continue their winning streak and claim points against a team who robbed them last time out. With team captain Adam Yorke unavailable, vice captain Mike Cade led the team out. Hornsea lined up with Milbank in goal, a back four of Limb, Cade ©, Ashbridge and Baines. A middle 5 of Baldwin, Codd and Longley-Froud with Revell and Stathers providing the width. A returning Ben Leyland was the striking outlet. That left Hornsea with options on the bench in the way of Brooks, Powell and the debuting Lewis Reeve.
Town started off strong with Baldwin Codd and Longley dominating the centre of the park, Codd played a number a through balls that were caught up in the wind whilst Longley went for his trade mark Hollywood passes. Both would have worked if not for the wind during today’s game. Baldwin in his usual style chose to run the ball in, linking up with Revell and Stathers on the wings to stretch the game. Hornsea could have been 3 or 4 up within the first 15 minutes had it not been for some excellent goal keeping from the visiting team. Oak Road were soon reduced to ten men through injury and soon after their number 9 broke away from the pack leaving the defence for dust and giving Milbank no option other than to come and challenge. As Limb and Cade got on the goal line the striker rounded Towns keeper and blasted the ball in to the top corner putting the visitors 1-0 up! Hornsea made changes on the 20 minute mark introducing Brooks and Reeve to the game. It took Town less than 5 minutes to get back into the game with Baldwin picking up the ball at 30 yards and dancing past multiple players before slotting home to level the game and score an excellent individual goal. Considering Oak Road had 10 men they were a strong well organised team who could have had more had it not been for some good defending and communication from Hornsea’s back 5. A clearance/through ball from Cade via a few other players allowed Brooks (who made up some ground) to poke the ball between the keepers legs and put Town ahead on the stroke of half time.
Half time Hornsea 2-1 Oak Road Rangers
Powell was introduced to the game after a few weeks off as Town looked to see the game off. With Reeve, Layland, Stathers and Revell all having goal scoring opportunities only to be denied by a combination of good keeping and over powering the shots. As Baldwin challenged for a ball his hand was stood on and he was forced to leave the game to seek medical attention ending the young players excellent game. Town earned a throw in, Limb aimed for Longley-Froud but for some reason threw the ball to one of the opposing players that led to a poorly conceded goal. A hiccup in the experienced players game today. With Town pressing for the win Stathers crossed the ball into the box and it struck the outstretched hand of and Oak Road player giving Hornsea a penalty. Leyland stepped up and drilled home to put Town back ahead with 10 minutes to go. A cheeky wink from Leyland to Limb just letting him know he’s saved the game and his bacon! Further chances came and went for Baines, Revell and Brooks but Hornsea will take the 3 points again this week.

Local radio station Waller FM caught up with manager Dave Limb after the game who again praised his players for a great performance. “We were good today for the most part but we made it difficult In patches. End of the day a wins a win and that’s four on the trot now and we’re up to 4th in the league! Baldwin has some
Ligament damage, muscle tissue damage and a ruptured the vein on the back of his hand. Nothing’s broken so hopefully he’ll be back next week as we look to push on for 3rd place with a 5th win. Excellent performances from Cade and Ashbridge at centre back who worked tirelessly all game but man of the match is that man again Sam Baldwin”
