Baldwin gets off the mark, Burton bags a worldie and Twitter explodes as Hornsea bleed sand and come from 3-0 down to win 6-3 and do the double over AFC Southcoats!
This week saw Town travel to the nice end of Preston Road to take on AFC Southcoats in another mid table clash. Hornsea own a pre season and first half of the season win over Southcoats who were looking for a consolation win and a big 3 points today. Town still missing 4 regular players had to overcome another last minute player drop out. Nevertheless they lined up with Wright in goal, a back four of Limb, Griffiths, Ashbridge and Powell. Captain Kieron Baines and Nath Revell ran the wings with Baldwin Burton and Codd as a central 3. Stathers was the attacking outlet. AFC Southcoats started with something to prove and with Hornsea playing atrociously it took 25 minutes for them to be 3-0 up with two lobs of the keeper and a smash down the middle. As Towns players looked at each other wondering what was going on. Baldwin went close with a 20 yard free kick on 40 minutes.
Half time Southcoats 3-0 Hornsea
After a ticking off from manager Limb and rallying half time team talk from Griffiths Town returned to the pitch. Good work from Codd and Baldwin saw the ball getting out to the wingers as Revell and Baines tried their best to get the ball into the box. Hornsea needed to change something so made a tactical substitution that saw Codd make way for Warmold to add some height in the middle. Bang on 60 minutes Revell was played though and he fired home from 6 yards to give Town what everyone thought was a consolation goal. What happened next was Roy of the Rovers stuff! As Southcoats hit the cross bar then the post Hornsea broke up the pitch with Baldwin dancing through the home team to bag with 30 minutes to go. 3-2 GAME ON! A quick one two between Limb and Revell saw Nathan being chopped down by a shocking challenge that went unpunished by the referee who said and I quote “I can’t give cards out for injuries”! Yes but you can for the drop kick prior to the injury. As Revell is carried from the pitch Codd returns to carry on his good work. A second sub sees Powell make way for Sam Cane to join the game. Good play from Town leads to Burton firing home to level the game at 3-3 with 15 minutes to go. More good play sees Hornsea moving the ball, playing out from the back and passing the ball before Baldwin bags again giving him a brace and finally completing the come back! 4-3 Hornsea. A foul at 25 yards sees Burton float a free kick into the top corner also giving him a brace followed by what looked like his hatrick when his shot to the back post was turned in by Stathers taking the final score to 6-3 Hornsea Town!
Twitter caught up with player manager Dave Limb who admitted he was out of ideas at half time and didn’t see a way back but the battle and desire from all involved saw his team dig in to not only get the 3 goals back to to win in style with 6 goals. Good work all around but man of the match for a second week goes to Sam Baldwin for his brilliant performance.
Next week we play at home on the 3G and look forward to a nice playing surface.
